When Rob Tyson joined the Old Kempton team he was so excited to have the chance, alongside Emma Stevenson and Bill Lark, to choose the next Whisky Club release. The Old Kempton Whisky Club release is always something extra special, carefully selected for its unique and special flavour profiles and is always in high demand. Having the chance to be the one to select it is something Rob really enjoyed doing as you can read below -

Rob Tyson says: “When I first joined Old Kempton and started tasting my way through the maturing casks, I quickly became excited about the quality of the whisky we had maturing in Pinot casks. For this whisky club release, I wanted to share this excitement with our members. For me, Pinot casks can be a very temperamental cask. A good one can deliver an amazingly vibrant whisky with rich fruit and spice characteristics and the tannin from the wine can provide a great depth of flavour and act as foundation to support a wide variety of other flavours. A bad one, becomes overly tannic, dusty, and astringent.

The four 20L Tasmanian Pinot Casks that I have selected for this release perfectly encapsulate the vibrancy I love about Pinot casks and balances the bright fruity aspects with beautiful vanilla from the American Oak casks and maltiness from the original spirit.

As we prepare this release for you, we are also talking to our friends in the Tasmanian wine industry who are currently going through vintage. As they have casks becoming available, we are working with them to select the perfect casks for our spirit so we can continue producing this style of whisky in coming years.”
