Aroma: Monte Carlo biscuits, pecan pie and toasted oak dominate at first before the whisky opens up with some warmth to provide more complexity with orange peel, cardamom and chocolate coated raspberries.

Taste: Big and rich across the palate with plenty of American oak, orange peel, cream caramel and black pepper. Our tasting panel was evenly split between preferring the whisky at 55% and 52% so don’t be afraid to add a few drops of water and taste the changes in the finished whisky.

Finish: A maritime aspect comes in through the finish which is quite rare in Old Kempton whiskies. The saltiness gives way to a marmalade and charred oak before settling into a more recognisable dark chocolate and mixed spice finish.

This month’s release was selected to celebrate those peaceful moments and draws on two casks from different sides of the Atlantic Ocean to create a rich and complex whisky that captures the quintessential elements of each. From the East Atlantic we have the vibrant fruit driven characteristics of a Madeira cask and from the West Atlantic we have the sweet oak of an American Bourbon Cask.

Once married, we put the whisky back in the Bourbon Cask to integrate over time and create a complex and ever changing flavour profile that will keep developing in your glass as you take a moment to stop and savour it.
